Player Insurance – Medical Expenses and Income Protection
Who is covered?
Senior rugby players, coaches and referees can now purchase Medical Expenses and Income Protection insurance online at very affordable prices. This is voluntary insurance to cover the entire rugby season.
Players – senior players that are NZRU registered (players must have completed and signed an official NZRU registration).
Coaches – for a recognised team of a New Zealand Rugby Union affiliated rugby club.
Referees – who are registered members of a Rugby Referees Association.
Teams – can also apply for insurance cover via their club secretary/treasurer or team manager using the application form at the bottom of this page.
What is covered?
Medical Expenses and Income Protection where ACC or your employer does not pay.
Medical Expenses
Cover is for expenses over and above what ACC or any private medical insurance or employer paid insurance may pay. You must have a registered ACC case number to be able to claim (ACC must have first accepted the claim).
Income Protection
Cover is for the first week off work and only where you are not eligible for paid sick leave. You must also be in the care of a qualified medical practitioner or surgeon to claim.

When and where are you covered?
This covers the entire rugby season, including pre-season training and matches, either while playing, training or travelling to and from matches/training and also while on official speaking or presentation engagements.
